MILKSHAKE CAMPAIGN 2022: A CHAT WITH JOEY

24 January 2022

For this year, a total of five wonderful faces will be the center point of our campaign. Behind these faces are beautiful stories that we love to share with you. We sat down with campaign model Joey and asked him about his drives and dreams.

"Especially in the queer community, it gets hard to handle alone so it’s important to show up for each other. And know that we can really do this together"

“I was always quite shy and wanted to continue pushing myself, so I went with my flow to experience new things. I’ve had the chance to meet so many inspiring people along the way. They reminded me to stay true to myself. Being comfortable with who you are and what you create doesn't depend on validation from others.

Sometimes you can feel limited, feeling like you don’t fit in or even have a chance, and that’s tough. Especially in the queer community, it gets hard to handle alone so it’s important to show up for each other. And know that we can really do this together."

"We all just need to be human. Individuals. Let go of all of the labels. Whether you’re from our community or not, it's important that we know we are free and safe."

"What I want is for us to be free. We have so much strength, beauty and creativity: we can be free. We need to be safe and feel loved for the way that we express ourselves. But the way we are currently living is not that. There isn't enough representation out there yet, so I hope that this will continue to grow. We all just need to be human. Individuals. Let go of all of the labels. Whether you’re from our community or not, it's important that we know we are free and safe.

The first time I went to Milkshake was just last year. I have always wanted to go before this and I’m not sure why I didn’t. But for everything, there is a right time. I had the warmest welcome from the Milkshake Family and the community. It was beautiful to experience the support for everyone’s creativity. I can’t wait to see everyone’s creativity flow this year.

Milkshake really shows that you are not alone and that we are together in this. I’m proud to be part of it, I’m grateful to be part of it, and everyone around the world just needs to be and be free.”
